Headshot Clothing Guide

Clothing

  • All white shirts/tops will look extra bright on camera, so using a coat or vest can help break it up!
  • Busy patterns will steal the attention from your face (not in a good way). Even though that bold print might look great in person, on camera it can get distracting — think clean, simple, and timeless over loud or busy.

Accessories

  • Accessories should complement you, not compete with you. If it’s bigger than your face, it’s probably stealing the spotlight.
  • Transition glasses can show a surprising tint on camera, so give them time to clear up indoors before your session.

Hair/Makeup

  • Make sure your hair is styled the way you’d like it best presented.
  • Try to avoid scheduling a haircut right before your headshot, just in case it turns out shorter or sharper than expected.
  • For makeup, avoid anything too glossy. Lighting can create extra shine, and we want the focus on you, not the reflection.
